Glebe Farm Hedging began in 1999. My family have farmed in Essex since the 1920s, and having studied agriculture and worked briefly on farms in East Anglia, Scotland, France and Argentina, I then spent 16 years running an upmarket garden centre in central London, and working as plant buyer and general manager for a group of garden centres and specialist nurseries based in East Anglia and London, followed by a brief stint as manager with a national group of garden centres. With my then young family, we moved from London to renovate an ancient medieval house in the middle of the family’s small farm on the Essex/Suffolk borders, and soon set about creating a new garden around the house, divided by formal hedges of yew and box, with an outer boundary of native trees and mixed hedging to give some protection from the searing Essex wind. Prompted by the difficulty of finding a reliable source of good quality, affordable hedge plants and trees, and presented with the opportunity to indulge my passion for plants, gardens and the natural landscape, using land and resources on the farm, Glebe Farm Hedging was born.
We remain a small family business, with core principles of quality, value, and personal care and advice. We are assisted in this by our wonderful team of long-suffering, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dedicated staff…and two horticulturally inclined dogs: a badly behaved terrier called Holly, and an almost feral lurcher called Rosie!
